Bowel Cancer Symptoms

Bowel includes long muscular tube that ends at anus starting from the end of the stomach. It comprises of two parts, the small bowel and the large bowel. The large bowel is also called colon. The small bowel helps in digestion of food and the large bowel is responsible for the absorption of water. Bowel cancer is actually the cancer of the large bowel or colon.Bowel Cancer Symptoms can be observed but it is observed that around 85% of the patients with bowel cancer are not diagnosed until the cancer spreads in such a way that it reaches to lymph nodes.

Bowel Cancer Symptoms-Though Confusing Yet Alarming

Bowel Cancer Symptoms that are observed and should not be ignored once found. It has some initial symptoms and the others at later and serious stage. The initial symptoms include:

  • Blood in stools
  • Bleeding through rectum
  • A proper change in the bowel habits. It includes constipation or dirrhoea. Some times, it also includes the frequent passing of stools than usual.
  • Abdominal pain
  • Considerable weight loss because of unknown reasons.

Bowel cancer symptoms at later stage are more severe and are as follows:

  • Bleeding:

          The very first symptom that is observed is bleeding from the back passage of the patient. On noticing this bleeding; one should readily visit the doctor to get the proper check up and also to have proper medication.

  • Diarrhoea:

           The symptom of bleeding is usually followed by diarrhea.

  • Vomiting:

            The patient also suffers with vomiting when the bowel gets blocked because of the cancer.

  • Constipation:

            Constipation is another symptom of bowel cancer. Constipation occurs because of the blockage of the bowel as a result of the growth of the cells.

  • Lower Abdominal Pain:

            Because of the blockage of the large bowel and constipation, the patient undergoes severe lower abdominal pain.

  • Feeling Of Unsatisfied Defecation:

           The patient may also have the feeling of unsatisfied defecation because of the blockage of the bowel.

  • Loss Of Appetite:

           All these symptoms are inter related. As the patient does not have the feel of being fully satisfied with the defecation, he does not feel the hunger or urge to eat more. In other words, the patient loses his appetite.

  • Weight Loss:

                  As the patient of bowel cancer loses his appetite, consequently he loses his weight. So, weight loss is another symptom of bowel cancer syndrome.

  • Anaemia:

            Because of bleeding that takes place as a result of bowel cancer, the loss of red blood cells takes place. Because of which the patient becomes anaemic.

  •  Fatigue:

            The patient of bowel cancer usually stays fatigued and tired because of loss of blood and constipation.

  •  Breathlessness:

            Breathlessness is another symptom of bowel cancer. The patient is usually observed in breathless condition as he is always tired and fatigued.

  •  Bloating:

            The patients of the bowel cancer always feel bloated near belly button.

  •  Strained Feeling In The Rectum:

             The patient of bowel cancer also has this strained feeling in his rectum which always gives him the feeling of discomfort, unrest and pain.

Prevention
All above mentioned symptoms are bowel cancer symptoms including the initial symptoms and the ones at the later stage. These all symptoms can also be caused because of the other diseases. The problems because of which these conditions occur include piles, haemorrhoids, infections of bowel and inflammatory bowel disease. But if any of such condition persists, you ought not to ignore it and must see your doctor. Always pay an immediate visit to the doctor in case you find that any of the above mentioned symptoms is taking longer. Only your doctor can diagnose well after your complete examination if it is bowel cancer or not.
